The Smart Energy team are HVAC geniuses!! I live in a former one-room schoolhouse from 1879 that was renovated in 1990. It has a myriad of challenges around heating/cooling and only Smart Energy (out of 6 companies I consulted and got estimates from) was able to come up with a solution. Nothing is ever easy in historic houses, but they patiently worked out the kinks and followed through until everything was working smoothly. A request for service was made after business hours on 1/04. Out heat pump stopped working and blowing warm air. Phil came out same day I called to give a free second opinion on the work we had recently done by another contractor that cost $2800, but did not correct the problem. Phil was here over three hours, found and showed me numerous issues with the current HVAC systems we have. He said he could try to pinpoint cause of freon leaks, but because our system was getting past its expected life, he said he would suggest we consider replacing at least the upstairs air handler and outside unit. He is working on written estimates now. We found him to be incredibly knowledgeable, professional and generous with his time. While we have not signed a contract with them, I hope their proposal is competitive.

Smart Energy Systems installed my current hvac system 9 years ago and did a fantastic job. I have had the maintenance contract with them the entire time and they come out twice a year and conduct a very thorough system diagnostics and cleaning, and inform me of status of system functions, and show me the readings while also showing me the component operating spec ranges. A couple of components were identified as being borderline as to specs over the years so I opted to have them replaced and have avoided system failures (these were not major expensive components). I’ve had services from many of the techs and they are very knowledgeable and always take time to explain things. Anthony has been our tech for a couple of years now, and he is great. I am going to have them upgrade my filter system to a new and improved one that maximizes air flow and reduces stress on the fan while increasing cfm output.
